Major Long Island Road Closed Due To Fatal Hit-Run Crash

A major Long Island roadway is closed due to a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian.

The crash took place around 6 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, in East Patchogue eastbound on the Sunrise Highway, said Suffolk County Police.

According to police, an adult male was standing or walking on the entrance ramp to eastbound Sunrise Highway, east of Hospital Road when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. 

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. 

As of 12:15 p.m., the highway remains closed between Exits 53 and 54, between Route 112 and Hospital Road. Long delays are currently taking place in the area. 

Police said they expect the road to be closed for "some time" during the crash investigation.
